The Web Designer’s purpose is to create world class media that optimally supports project goals in line with company specifications, manage project work flow, coordinate with and supervise developers and designers, ensure project quality control, and meet budgetary and timeline goals.
Essential Results
Ensures Flawless Task Execution by working closely with Producer to fully understand and envision the intended result of each assigned project task; using own knowledge and creative expertise to execute project tasks promptly and produce intended results; working collaboratively with Producer to assess quality and timeliness of task deliverables; revising task deliverables as needed; and recommending and/or producing alternative or improved variations of task deliverables as appropriate.
Creates Departmental Synergy by working collaboratively with Producer, Creative Director, and other production artists to support overall project and company goals; and sharing knowledge and talent with other production artists to improve team capabilities.
Maintains Work Flow by monitoring project progress and resource usage; assisting in trouble-shooting “log jams”; collaborating with the Office Manager to schedule facility use.
Contributes to Project Success by executing project tasks as expeditiously as possible; completing project deliverables before they are due; immediately informing Producer of any problems or complications with a project and recommending remedies; and entering activity slips, notes, and status updates into ISIS (a CRM system we will train you on) regularly and accurately.
Maintains Departmental Effectiveness by working with COO to fully understand and execute all operational and maintenance procedures, and following all file management procedures and conventions.
Ensures Project Quality by applying own creative instincts to produce superb project deliverables; learning new techniques from other Production Artists; and committing to producing only the finest results.
Maintains Professional and Technical Knowledge by participating in personal and professional development opportunities; reviewing professional publications; benchmarking best practices; participating in professional society
Enhances the Work Environment by dealing openly and directly with team members; acting with integrity and respect; exhibiting a positive attitude face to face and over electronic communications.
Maintains a Safe and Healthy Workplace by following all organizational standards and adhering to all legal regulations.
Ensures Team Effectiveness by assisting in the training of new Designers/Developers and Producers, monitoring productivity, cultivating team rapport, anticipating needs, proactively assisting, providing constructive feedback and guidance to Designers/Developers; creating and implementing ideas that support team members' ability to maximize Client satisfaction.
Position Requirements
The following are the qualities that we have found make a successful Production Artist at Ursa Minor. However, if your particular experience doesn’t exactly match, but you believe you would succeed in this position and are motivated by our vision and mission, we would love to hear from you anyway.
Experience- 5+ years producing media arts or web technology
- 2+ years of project management experience
Proficiency in ALL of the following is a MUST:
- Designing themes for CMS web sites
- Front-end UI design
- Strong competency in web usability, user-experience design, and information architecture
- Graphic Design and Illustration (CS3)
- Web Design– HTML, Flash UI design, basic actionscript
- Motion Graphics Design (AE, Motion)
- Video Capture and Editing
- Production (AE, Shake, Elastic Reality)
- 3D Design and Animation (Maya)
- CMS: Drupal, Joomla, and variants
- Web Development – CSS / AJAX and Smarty, or Advanced Actionscript
- Web Development – Basic PHP, XML, and SQL variants
- Web Development – Secure PHP, XML, and SQL variants
- Web Development – Ruby, and Ruby on Rails
- Audio Production and Editing (Logic, ProTools)
- Strong leadership skills
- Sensitive to the needs of others
- Web 2.0 savvy
- Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize
- Responsible, self-starter
- Committed to working in a dynamic and supportive team environment
- Interested in enhancing life’s experience through one’s own work
- Highly organized; ideally a user of David Allen's "Getting Things Done" (GTD) methodology or equivalent
